Football. It may not be something that automatically springs to mind when you think of telecommunications or Fluid Network Solutions.
But I’m hoping Fluid and the great telecommunications work we do is exactly what springs to mind when people go to watch football. Well, when anyone watches Shrewsbury Up and Comers FC Eagles Under 12 team anyway.
Fluid Network Solutions has sponsored the team’s shirts this year so our logo is boldly in place on their chest.
It may seem like an odd move to generate business but I have always been an advocate of getting to know local businesses, supporting causes and becoming involved in the local area in which you’re based.
It was for this reason I helped set up Severn Business Network six years ago, which continues to flourish today with over 30 members from across Shrewsbury, Telford and indeed the rest of Shropshire. You can find out more about it here.
And being involved in your community is what has led me to football (other than a great passion for the sport of course!). My employees and our franchisees know just how highly I rate this; going to meetings, clubs and becoming involved is a great way of telling people exactly what it is you do and what you can do for them.
They may never have heard about your brand before but instantly they have all the information, shared with the passion and expertise you have when talking about your business. This is a room full of potential customers, who know many other people or businesses that can be potential customers too.
While sponsoring a football club does not provide the opportunity to share your passion first hand, although I do hope to get to some of the Eagles’ games, it might trigger one person to wonder exactly what Fluid Network Solutions is - and that person could turn into a customer.
The Shrewsbury Up and Comers FC Eagles Under 12s were formed in 2011 at Under 8 level and are now in their 5th season.
They play in the Under 12-Green division of the Shropshire Junior Football League and by all accounts the squad of players are a committed team who always give their best.
The team's main aim is to provide the opportunity for the players to develop their football and social skills in an enjoyable and safe environment. Developing friendships, teamwork, respect and fair play are the values that team manager Dylan Stephens encourages.
Which emulates a lot of the values that Fluid represents - and on a personal level it resonates with the football I have played in my life. My football career started over in Birmingham, I then went on to play semi-professional for Solihull and Tamworth, among others.
So look out for the Fluid brand on football shirts and hopefully in pictures online and in the press too.
